Our Journey
From Vision to the Negev Fields
The Pioneers
Avi Leitner & Avi Rosenfeld: The Visionaries
It all began with what Avi Leitner called a "crazy idea." While traveling in Mexico and experiencing the finest tequilas in Jalisco, Leitner was struck by the climatic similarities between Mexico's tequila heartland and Israel's Negev Desert.
The dry environment, abundant sunshine, heat, and neutral pH soil conditions were remarkably similar. What seemed impossible to others became a vision of possibility for Leitner and his partner, Avi Rosenfeld.
Together, they embarked on a journey to prove that the Holy Land could produce world-class blue agave, creating something that would be uniquely and authentically Israeli.
The Partnership
Two visionaries united by a shared dream to create something extraordinary in the heart of the Negev Desert.
The "Crazy Idea"
What started as an observation during a trip to Mexico became the foundation for a revolutionary agricultural venture in Israel.
The Discovery
In Mexico's Jalisco region, Leitner noticed striking similarities between the tequila-producing terroir and the Negev Desert.
The Vision
Realizing the potential, the partners envisioned creating a world-class Israeli agave spirit from Negev-grown blue agave.
The Commitment
Despite skepticism, they committed to the 5-7 year journey required for blue agave cultivation and maturation.
Cultivating a Future
Gaza Border Communities
For Leitner, this project represents more than agricultural innovation— it's an "authentic Jewish Zionist project" aimed at making the desert bloom and building a sustainable future for the Gaza border communities.
Working closely with local farmers like Eran Braverman from Kibbutz Alumim, The Blue Agave Group is creating economic opportunities and revitalizing agricultural communities in the region.
This initiative embodies the pioneering spirit of Israel—taking barren land and transforming it into something that will contribute to both local communities and the global marketplace.
"We're not just growing agave—we're turning the Negev green and building hope for our border communities."
— Avi Leitner, Co-Founder
